In the Footsteps of Exiles: Bloomsbury History Walk

In the Footsteps of Exiles: Bloomsbury History Walk In-Person

By walking in the footsteps of exiles we read between the lines of streets and squares, and encounter their stories more immediately. This walk guides participants around the Bloomsbury they may think they know – that of Virginia Woolf – and reveals layers of other histories, existing like geological strata under our feet. We pause to pay attention to signs of past lives – blue plaques commemorating only some – and reveal the stories of refugees who came to Bloomsbury through the twentieth century.

Date:
Wednesday, November 19, 2025
Time:
11:00am - 1:30pm
Time Zone:
UK, Ireland, Lisbon Time (change)
Registration has closed.

The walk will take place outside, in the streets around University of London.

Senate House is closed on this day so we are meeting in the reception of Stewart House, 32 Russell Square for a punctual start at 11.00.

Developed by Senate House Library, the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies and the Research Centre for German & Austrian Exile Studies, with the kind assistance of the Wiener Holocaust Library and Quakers in Britain.
